Description: Welcome back to another episode of “Customs and Restorations with Vick”. For this week's restoration, Vick got his hands on an extremely rare pair, the Nike Decade, a sneaker worn by the infamous religious movement known as Heaven's Gate. To start, Vick focused on the soles and midsoles. Using some acetone and cotton balls, Vick remove all the old glue to ensure the new glue he applies later will adhere correctly. Once all the old glue was removed, Vick gave the soles and insoles a good scrubbing using RESHOEVN8R’S medium and brass bristle brushes. From there it was on to the secret sauce - Sole Revive! Vick applied a nice thin layer of Sole Revive to the midsole and the Nike emblem on the outsole to try and remove some of that ugly yellowing. As the soles and midsoles sat inside the indoor setup, Vick took the uppers over to RESHOEVN8R’s sister store Many Worlds, also the home of RESHOEVN8R’s drop-off cleaning service, to use the air compressor and vacuum to clean the dust and excess debris from the shoe. He then broke out a lint shaver to give the sock liner a nice new look. There was still a bit of glue stuck to the bottom of the uppers, so Vick broke out an X-Acto knife and carefully shaved off any remaining glue. From there, Vick was successfully able to apply the new glue and bring the soles and midsoles together. The shoe was looking great, but Vick noticed some rubber missing from the toe cap. To fix this, he cut tiny pieces of rubber and applied them using flex-glue! While he was waiting for the glue to dry, he turned his attention towards the laces. After soaking in water for almost 24 hours, Vick rinsed the laces, applied new lace tips, and then ironed them to help give them a new look. Once the laces were looking good Vick returned to the toe caps and sanded down the dry glue. After the sanding was complete, Vick gave the uppers a nice deep clean using the RESHOEVN8R Signature Kit. Vick wanted to get as close to the original look as possible, so he decided to re-dye the suede using some black dye and his trusty air brush. Finally Vick headed back to the toe cap to paint and seal the the new rubber. The shoe was almost done, but Vick noticed a bit of yellowing on the Nike logo on the tongue. Back to the indoor setup with some Sole Revive. After a few hours to cook, Vick re-laced the shoe and it was as good as new!
